Description

Our team participated in one of the most prestigious tournaments in Georgia — Grassroots Cup Georgia, competing in two age categories: players born in 2017 and 2018.

2017 Age Group

The 2017 team made a very strong impression.
In the group stage, we defeated Servali Kutaisi 2–0.
Our next match was against SC Zekari. It was a very intense game — despite having a clear advantage, we narrowly lost 1–2.
In the final group match, we faced Pakhtakor Tashkent. We needed a win to advance from the group. The boys gave their maximum effort, outplayed a strong opponent in every aspect of the game, and created many scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, we were unable to convert them, and the match ended 0–0.
With 4 points, we narrowly missed advancing to the next stage.

2018 Age Group

Our 2018 team performed the tournament with great confidence and determination.

They won all three group matches:

  • SC Selero — 5–0

  • Lokomotiv — 5–3

  • Grandi 2 — victory in the final group match

In the quarterfinals, we faced Grandi again, this time their first team — and won 2–0.

In the semifinals, we played against Inter Academy. The match was intense and highly entertaining. Inter took a three-goal lead early on, but our boys managed to turn the game around, scoring two goals and creating several more chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t equalize and lost 2–3.

In the third-place match, we played against SC Vazisubani. It was another thrilling game. Although we were behind twice, we managed to equalize both times. A few minutes before the final whistle, Nikolaz Kurdzadze scored a beautiful free kick, putting us ahead and securing the victory ⚽️⚽️⚽️

After the championship, an award ceremony was held, and our team received their well-deserved trophy and medals.

Nikolaz Kurdzadze was named the tournament’s Best Forward, scoring 10 goals throughout the championship ⭐️⭐️

Location

Tbilisi
Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Because of its location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history, Tbilisi has been a point of contention among various global powers. To this day, the city's location ensures its position as an important transit route for energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist, and Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though its population is overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.
