The 9 April Garden is a Tbilisi city park located near Rustaveli Avenue. The first public garden in Tbilisi, designed by architect Otto Simonson (1859), was opened in 1865. The original name was Alexandrovsky. In Soviet times it was called the Garden of 26 Baku Commissars, the Garden of Communards. The park was renamed in connection with the events of April 9, 1989 in Tbilisi.
