These countries may seem very different, but their wines have surprisingly many points of connection. On September 14, we will gather around one table to taste three pairs of wines — French and Georgian side by side. This is an intimate evening for those interested in experiencing how pieces of two wine cultures come together into a complete picture.
In the glasses:
La Part du Colibri, Folle Blanche (Loire), and Lechkhumi Seafloor, Tsolikouri (Lechkhumi)
Domaine des Aspras "A Lisa," Grenache and Cinsault (Provence), and Gvantsa’s Wine, Aladasturi (Imereti)
La Dame de L’Hospital, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (Bordeaux), and Vivere Saperavi (Kakheti)
Evening topics:
Organic, biodynamic, and “natural” — where are the boundaries and what are the differences?
The role of terroir in the style of the wine;
The Georgian approach to winemaking — why it’s called archaic and yet brilliant at the same time.
We will not only discuss styles and techniques — this will be a lively comparison, a chance to challenge your own stereotypes and hear the wine in a new way.
The tasting will be led by Katerina Alexandrova, a certified sommelier and wine guide from Tbilisi, who rarely visits Batumi — don’t miss the chance.
