VO2 max, or maximal oxygen uptake, is the maximum amount of oxygen an individual can use during intense or maximal exercise. It is measured in milliliters of oxygen used per minute per kilogram of body weight. VO2 max is considered the best indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The higher the VO2 max, the more oxygen the body uses during high-intensity exercise, and therefore the more energy can be produced.
