Description

Address: 10 D. Bakradze Street, Tbilisi, 0108

Opening Days: Daily

Opening Hours: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM

From 1915 until his death in 1933, the renowned Georgian composer Zakaria Paliashvili, widely recognized as the founder of Georgian opera music, lived and worked at 10 Bakradze Street in Tbilisi.

A significant part of his life and many of his greatest artistic achievements are closely associated with this house.

The first official resolution concerning the establishment of the museum dates back to 1959. At that time, the apartment was occupied by the composer's nephew, to whom Paliashvili had bequeathed the property and valuable personal belongings, along with other relatives. They subsequently donated the apartment for the establishment of the museum.

On October 2, 1962, symbolically marking the anniversary of the composer's death, the Zakaria Paliashvili Memorial House Museum and its first exhibition were officially inaugurated.

Museum Collections

The museum preserves a rich collection of materials related to the life and work of the great Georgian composer Zakaria Paliashvili (1871–1933).

Its exhibits include personal memorabilia, private archives, original scores of his celebrated operas “Abesalom and Eteri”and “Daisi,” posters from their first productions, historical documents, photographs, manuscripts, his personal library, and other valuable materials.

Efforts to develop and preserve the museum's collections began immediately after its establishment.

Some exhibits were purchased from the composer's close relatives, while others were donated. Additional materials were collected from private individuals, various institutions, the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire, the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre, and other organizations.

Location

Tbilisi
Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Because of its location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history, Tbilisi has been a point of contention among various global powers. To this day, the city's location ensures its position as an important transit route for energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist, and Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though its population is overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.
