Description

The outcome of the course will be a graphic poster presenting the entire history of Georgia. This graphic narrative of Georgian history will be created only once — within this course — so hurry to become one of its authors.

The course is designed for young people, history enthusiasts, and curious minds — in other words, for true patriots interested in seeing Georgia’s multi-layered history as a single, continuous process.

No one will be asked to memorize dates or isolated events. The course is led by historian Buba Kudava, who will present the history of the formation and development of Georgian principalities, political entities, and systems of power as stories and adventures that remain in memory.

The learning process follows a semi-academic format — maintaining accuracy and a critical perspective, while being based on active participation and dialogue among participants.

The course is fully interactive: participants attend lectures, collect historical materials, work with sources, maps, chronicles, and visual artifacts. History is approached as a narrative, where not only “what happened” matters, but also “how it happened” — how political space was formed, how borders, power, and centers changed, and what connections existed between different eras and entities.

The final result will be a collectively created graphic narrative — a poster that visually and narratively traces Georgia’s long history. This work will combine academic knowledge with graphic storytelling as a contemporary way of understanding history, allowing participants to transform historical research into a clear, thoughtful, and shareable narrative.

This is a one-time course, as it will produce a unique version of Georgian history that can find its place both in educational institutions — schools and universities — and in the interior of a home or library.

Meetings take place once a week (Tuesday).
The start time is determined in agreement with participants.

Location

Tbilisi
Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Because of its location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history, Tbilisi has been a point of contention among various global powers. To this day, the city's location ensures its position as an important transit route for energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist, and Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though its population is overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.
