Tato Akhalkatsišvili's Exhibition "კ(ქ)რონოსი"
SOLO is the general partner of the exhibition.
Tato Akhalkatsišvili’s exhibition “კ(ქ)რონოსი” represents a significant stage in the artist’s creative journey. The immersive nature of the exhibition narrative is defined by large-scale paintings, each of which is a distinct part, unrelated to any specific series. The title, concept, and visual arrangement of the entire exhibition reflect the curator, Konstantine Bolkvadze’s, perspective on the artist. Monumental paintings are united by their dramatic quality and narrative pathos.
The visual narrative of the exhibition touches on the following aspects:
Biblical and archetypal mythological elements,
The Renaissance didacticism of François Rabelais (Gargantua and Pantagruel),
Eschatology and genre elements of the Dutch-Flemish school.
In timeless, impersonal spaces, the “wandering artist” searches for time through Kronos, Pegasus, Cupids, and other cultural codes. His goal is not to revive a style or an era but rather to reflect on the local, Georgian context through this path, telling allegorical stories about serious social-political and universal human issues.
The works reveal ambivalent nuances: toxic colors and Dutch valéry, harmony and chaos, life and death, classicism and postmodernism…
Tato Akhalkatsišvili belongs to the generation of the 2000s. He is a multimedia artist, creating not only paintings and graphics but also photographs, collages, installations, objects, and video art. Tato was a member of the "Figurative Art Studio" founded in 2004. The innovation of this group was evident in reflecting the post-Soviet space, the problems of collective memory, and introducing new styles of figurative art and hyperrealism into Georgian art.
An interesting aspect of the exhibition is the construction of graphic works as an altar in cult architecture. This creates a sense of approaching a threshold or crossing into another dimension. This construction runs throughout the entire exhibition, representing a selection of works by the artist from his early period to the present. Works created many years ago organically fit into the exhibition’s concept, demonstrating the consistency of the artist’s visual world.
The theme of the exhibition “კ(ქ)რონოსი” in a sense unveils the conceptual essence of Tato Akhalkatsišvili’s work: primary perceptions, abstracted plots, and in general, the artist’s universe constantly responds to modernity, social and political contexts, the new world order, its harmful consequences, and the struggle of values.
