Repin once said about Serov:
“…He would throw himself into his work with such self-forgetfulness that I sometimes had to force him to stop.”
To which Serov replied: “To work means to burn.”
And for him, art was the most beloved form of work.
At this lecture, we’ll talk about this self-critical and constantly evolving artist, and discover:
Why “Girl with Peaches” became a symbol of Russian painting, and how Serov revealed the character of his models
How Ilya Repin influenced his success and how the techniques, styles, and approaches of the great Russian painters evolved
Serov’s connection to the Peredvizhniki (The Wanderers) movement and which of his paintings caused public scandals
The lecture will be led by Pasha Rost — painter, illustrator, and graduate of the Florence Academy of Art, Faculty of Academic Painting.
