An aging, lonely music teacher decides that there's no better way to reconnect with his daughter than by pretending to be someone else. He dons a crooked jaw and an ill-fitting wig and shows up at her birthday as Toni Erdmann. The number of awkward situations and silent scenes becomes critical by the end, turning the comedy into a tragedy.
It was thee hit of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, although it didn't win the Palme d'Or. However, it conquered film critics who gave it the highest score in the history of the festival and awarded it the FIPRESCI Prize.
