On October 28 at 8:00 PM (39 Kote Afkhazi St.), ibis Styles Old Tbilisi and CALLIGRAPHYx invite you to an evening dedicated to the history of Georgian jazz.
Music journalist Lasha Gabunia will guide guests through the evolution of this music of freedom — its path in Georgia, the contributions of legendary musicians and orchestras, the Soviet context, and Stalin’s infamous ban: “Those who play jazz today will sell their homeland tomorrow.”
You’ll also hear stories about Prince Jano Bagrationi, who performed the legendary jazz piece “The Land of Flowers” in 1946, and many other key moments that shaped the history of Georgian jazz.
The storytelling will be accompanied by video and audio archives, as well as live music performances by:
Saxy Jozz — saxophone
Zviad Tsintsadze — keyboards
Temur Jokhadze — bass guitar
Guests will be welcomed with wine and tasting platters from ibis Styles Old Tbilisi, while CALLIGRAPHYx will offer a special set menu for the evening, with the option to make additional à la carte orders.
Duration: 2 hours
Ticket price: 110 GEL
