The film that made Ingmar Bergman famous. The plague is raging in Europe. A knight returning from the Crusades initiates a dangerous game - a chess match with Death, with his life at stake. It should be noted that most of the images in the film, including Death playing chess, are inspired by medieval frescoes.
Despite the depth of the allegory, "The Seventh Seal" is one of Bergman's most accessible films, making it a good starting point for getting to know the director.
The film received the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
