The action takes place in a small village in Guria, one of the regions of Georgia, during World War II. The village gossips gather in the morning, where they discuss the latest news. The postman will deliver letters and new newspapers, in which the gossips will read interesting stories about the villagers. The first story concerns a resident of this village - Ksenia and the old apple tree "Khazarula" in her yard, which was even considered a member of the family by her grandmother and granddaughter. Unfortunately, "Khazarula" had not borne fruit for a long time. According to an old folk tradition, the family members tried to scare the tree by cutting it down so that it would bear fruit out of fear. Indeed, and as if, the tree was frightened and a year later it would bear an incredibly abundant harvest. But this turned out to be the last vital step on the part of the tree, and after that, despite numerous threats, the apples would not bear again. The grandmother was forced to raise the issue of cutting it down, although her grandson was categorically against it. Since there was no one in the family who could cut down trees, the neighbor Anania took the initiative and cut down the tree in one night. In the morning, it turned out that the sap from the cut tree was oozing blood. The grandmother and granddaughter thought that a family member had been murdered. In fact, the tree's blood turned out to be red wine, because there was a hole full of wine buried in its roots, in the ground. The tree's roots broke through it and swallowed all the wine like water.
In another newspaper, there is a completely different story, which is also told by gossipers.
After the death of his parents, a little boy, Nodar, was taken to the village by his maternal grandmother, Yulia. In addition to Nodar, Yulia is raising two more orphaned grandchildren. Raising three children in the countryside during World War II was quite difficult. That is why Yulia decided to take Modar to another village, to his father's house - Kishvardi. The child did not know his grandfather and did not want to go, but grandmother Yulia insisted that he follow her. A year later, Yulia tries to get her grandson back and visits Kishvardi, where she tries every means to get back the child, who has grown to love and respect his grandfather for a year. Kishvardi can no longer stand Yulia's pleading and lamentation and is forced to give up his blood and flesh. The grandfather, left alone, suffers from his decision, but he cannot blame his grandmother either, because she is his blood and flesh. Suddenly, the door opens and his grandson returns to him. A delighted Kishvardi explains to Nodar that his return is a cry for blood.
Throughout the play, a character appears periodically who has become mentally retarded as a result of a physical injury. Despite his shortcomings, he is a very cheerful and positive person. Everyone feels sorry for him and loves him.
The postman enters the finale with his tragic feelings, believing that he is bringing tragedy to the village with his information from the war, and this is unbearable for him.
The play is intended for both adult viewers and schoolchildren, since Nodar Dumbadze's works are included in the school curriculum.
