The period following the 1905 Revolution. Reactionary forces dominate the country, opposing progress and free spirit, eliminating thinkers and patriots. People want to escape the deadlock, but, suppressed by fear, they are unable to resist — constantly waiting for a savior.
This is why a young composer, Nikusha, who arrives to collect folk songs, is mistaken for the organizer of a conspiracy. He and his companion, Leko Tatashvili, find themselves at the center of unfolding events.
Leko takes the blame for a crime he did not commit and takes his own life, while the “enlightened” — the intelligentsia — are gathered together and executed.
