Sylvain Chomet created two feature masterpieces: "The Triplets of Belleville" and "The Illusionist." If you haven't seen the first one yet, you need to catch up urgently!
"The Illusionist" is based on an unproduced script by the French mime, actor, and director of Russian descent, Jacques Tati, written as a personal letter to his now-deceased eldest daughter. The script was passed to Chomet by Tati's younger daughter, Sophie Tatischeff. She suggested turning it into an animated film, as she didn't want an actor to portray her father.
The main character is an animated version of Tati, with the animation done personally by Chomet. The plot revolves around the misadventures of a magician who finds himself in a closed community and meets a girl who believes he is a real magician.
