At the Batumi Drama Theatre, director Giorgi Kashia returns to classical works for the second time in a short period.
His first production was an adaptation of “Darisphan’s Troubles” by David Kldiashvili, followed by the immortal “The Government Inspector” by Nikolai Gogol.
As widely known, Gogol heard the plot and storyline from Alexander Pushkin.
It is a fascinating artistic moment when two independent geniuses ignite around the same story.
The result is what seems both natural and inevitable — “The Government Inspector”, a dramaturgical masterpiece that exposed the way society functions and ultimately touches upon a timeless, universal theme.
In the end, the real inspector always arrives — like judgment itself, the inevitable judge of our existence and the way we live.
Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theatre opened in 1952 and is the oldest dramatic theatre in Ajara, based in the centre of Batumi.
