Since the 1980s, almost a quarter of Georgia’s population — mostly women — has left the country. Italy has been one of the main destinations of this migratory wave.
What compels people to leave? What drives them? And those who remain — what do they feel? What do they lose? What is the emptiness left behind? And what fills that space?
We believe that within this contrast — between those who left and those who stayed — lies fertile ground for new theatrical reflection.
The project “The Departed” aims to explore the theme of migration from a deeply personal perspective — through the life stories and experiences of those who chose to leave and those who remained.
