Nikoloz Namoradze is an acclaimed pianist and composer whose artistic vision and innovative musicianship have earned him a distinctive place in today's classical music world. He gained international recognition in 2018 after winning the prestigious Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary, Canada.
He has been named a "Rising Star" by Musical America and BBC Music Magazine, and in 2022 received the Pianist of the Year Award from the UK Critics' Circle.
As a composer, Namoradze collaborates with leading performers and ensembles worldwide. His work extends beyond traditional concert performance, drawing on research in music perception and cognitive science to create new forms of audience engagement.
His doctoral dissertation at the CUNY Graduate Center focused on mathematical models of musical perception. The work received the Barry Brook Award for Best Dissertation of the Year and was later published by Springer as Ligeti’s Macroharmonies.
Namoradze is known for developing innovative concert experiences that incorporate deep listening practices, lecture-recitals, multimedia environments, and interdisciplinary scientific approaches.
Born in Tbilisi and raised in Budapest, he studied in Budapest, Vienna, Florence, New York, and London. His teachers include Emanuel Ax, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Zoltán Kocsis, Matti Raekallio, András Schiff, Eliso Virsaladze, and John Corigliano.
He currently teaches at the CUNY Graduate Center and collaborates regularly with The Juilliard School.
