Mystery Train

It is difficult to draw clear boundaries between Jarmusch's early films. It`s better to talk about the world he created - the world of outsiders, where one film seems to flow into another, and it's so easy to imagine that all the characters are more or less familiar with each other. «Train» consists of three short stories: the characters are going somewhere, walking, sitting in cafes, staying in dilapidated hotels. At the same time, all three stories are somehow tied to the legendary figure of Presley («Mystery Train» is the name of one of Elvis' songs), who acts as a kind of ghost, visibly and invisibly present throughout the film. 

Jarmusch is also known for his habit of shooting mostly friends – both actors and musicians. In «Train», for example, he actually pulled out of oblivion the great, but by that time firmly forgotten bluesman Screamin Jay Hawkins, offering him the role of a colorful night porter.
