Auditoria is becoming the permanent Tbilisi home of Simple Music House / Simple Music Ensemble World. We are opening the concert series with a program dedicated to the music of Paolo Sorrentino’s films.

For Sorrentino, music is not merely an accompaniment to the visual narrative; it is an independent part of his cinematic language. It challenges what unfolds on screen, creates contrast, and sometimes reveals more about the characters than the dialogue itself.

In his films, a choir performs The Beatitudes as the camera passes people who have long since stopped believing in anything. A liturgy is edited like a music video. Celebration suddenly gives way to silence, and within that silence we realize that the celebration was, in fact, about death. Sorrentino’s films are built precisely on this gap between the sacred and the everyday.

The Great Beauty (2013) earned Sorrentino an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and four European Film Awards, including Best European Film. Youth (2015) was named European Film of the Year, while Sorrentino was named European Director of the Year.

For more than two decades, he has created a universe of his own: Rome and Naples, aging men, beauty as the last form of consolation — accompanied by music in which contemporary composers meet celebrated classical masters.
