Sophie reminisces about her summer vacation with her father. This is a rare film in which sunny childhood innocence coexists with bone-chilling anxiety. It is evident to both the audience and the grown-up protagonist that this story cannot end well: there are constant hints that tragedy is imminent. But it never comes. And once again, we are immersed in the pool of a seaside all-inclusive hotel, with cocktails, sun loungers, billiards, and other simple tourist pleasures. And once again, we believe (because we want to believe) that nothing bad can happen in this sunny world.
