Sayat-Nova (The Color of Pomegranates)

The movie was directed by Sergei Parajanov, an artist who created a unique cinematic language that combined tradition with the avant-garde.

The mesmerizing "The Color of Pomegranates" tells the life of Armenian poet Sayat-Nova, who wrote in Armenian, Georgian, and Azerbaijani. It is a static picture of incredible beauty, consisting of a "chain of color-exuding static mizanscenes-metaphors"—reviving  medieval Armenian frescoes..

There are two versions of this film. Perhaps you have seen the popular version by Sergei Yutkevich, a Soviet director and film theorist who supervised the censorship of the film, which was eventually given the title "Color of Pomegranates." We will watch the director's version of "Sayat Nova," originally conceived by Parajanov.

Both versions have been restored by Martin Scorsese's foundation and digitized in 4K.
