The Academy of Thinking will host a salon discussion titled
“Samoseli Pirveli — Odysseus Comes to the Village,” led by Georgian writer, screenwriter, and playwright Guram Megrelishvili.
“Samoseli Pirveli” is one of the most important and distinctive works by Guram Dochanashvili and is considered a classic of Georgian literature. The text is multi-layered, combining philosophical, religious, and cultural symbolism, metaphorical thinking, and a complex narrative structure. A special place in the work is given to the system of names, the characters’ journeys, and the coded meanings embedded in the text, offering readers endless possibilities for interpretation.
The discussion will explore the text’s connection to ancient Greek literature, its symbolic system, the meaning of names, and the coded layers that give the work its rich interpretative depth.
The lecture aims to offer participants a new perspective and an alternative way of reading a work that may be well known to many, yet still preserves profound and unresolved layers of meaning.
Participants are encouraged to read “Samoseli Pirveli” in advance to ensure a more engaged and content-rich discussion focused on specific episodes and characters.
A light reception and a pleasant atmosphere will be provided.
Duration: 2–3 hours.
