The Movement Theatre is delighted to host the talented Brazilian artist Elis Mota on September 27 with the performance “SACRED BATH.”
Elis Mota is a multidisciplinary creator who uses autobiography as the starting point of his artistic exploration. His works have been presented internationally.
“Sacred Bath” is a solo physical theatre piece that addresses the loss of bodily autonomy and safety, exploring body ownership and spirituality through a journey of self-discovery. Created by Brazilian artist and poet Elis Mota, the performance focuses on autobiographical stories, challenges social norms, and invites the audience to reconsider their perception of bodily ownership and security.
Woven with poetry, movement, and humor, this bilingual performance (Portuguese and English) touches on the theme of body objectification from different perspectives of society. It delves into the complex nature of sexuality shaped by culture and religion, offering the audience a unique experience of self-exploration.
After its premiere in Lisbon, the piece was presented in London and Brighton, where it was shortlisted for the South East Dance Awards as “Most Astonishing Movement Performance.”
