Rear Window

A film that cleverly dissects the nature of cinema as the pleasure of voyeurism: a voyeuristic film that celebrates the very act of voyeurism.

Photographer Jeff, confined to a wheelchair after an accident, entertains himself by spying on his neighbors through the window of his apartment. One day, his imagination spirals out of control—he begins to suspect one of the residents of murder. Because Jeff cannot leave the apartment, all he has are fragments of what he sees.

In "Rear Window," Hitchcock plays delightfully with human paranoia and the tendency to fill in unknown details. By creating a film around a paralyzed protagonist, he uses the camera as an extension of his body, limiting not only Jeff's perspective but also that of the viewer.
