Description

Freud’s influence on 20th- and 21st-century culture is so fundamental that it can be said without exaggeration: there is a world before Freud and a world after Freud.

Who was Sigmund Freud, and why does his teaching, developed more than a century ago, remain relevant today?

The answer lies not so much in the absolute correctness of individual ideas, but in psychoanalysis itself — the new perspective on understanding the human being and the world created by humans. The discovery of the unconscious radically changed the image of the human subject, revealing a multidimensional being whose thoughts and actions are driven not only by conscious reasoning, but also by “dark instincts” and unconscious desires. Accordingly, everything created by human hands and minds — political and social institutions, religion, art — is, to a significant extent, an expression of these invisible and obscured drives.

Reading and discussing Freud’s works helps us better understand human nature, our civilization and culture, as well as ourselves.

Location

Tbilisi
Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Because of its location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history, Tbilisi has been a point of contention among various global powers. To this day, the city's location ensures its position as an important transit route for energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist, and Modern structures. Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though its population is overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian.
