The life of a young feudal lord’s wife—the youngest of four—unfolds inside her wealthy husband’s household, hidden from the outside world and governed by a rigid routine. Everything within it, especially the women and children, is subject to strict rules. The space and the people function like a perfectly calibrated mechanism, making even the terrifying finale feel, in a way, inevitable.
