We unpack our personal treasure chest again and watch a road movie that is reminiscent of «Bonnie and Clyde» but completely different.
The mood of Terrence Malick's «Badlands» can only be conveyed through small details, which make up almost the entirety of the film. Imagine a red balloon floating into the sky, a dog in a field, a burning dollhouse, and a couple: a freckled girl with hair the color of burnt prairie and a guy pretending to be tough. They dance the Charleston barefoot in the roadside dust, and then, without any malicious intent, they kill, kill, kill as if by accident...
This is American director Terrence Malick's debut, which was included in the National Film Registry 20 years after its release. The film is based on the true story of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate, who committed a series of murders in Nebraska and surrounding states in 1958.
