The story of a successful actress who, after experiencing a nervous breakdown, refuses to talk and ends up in a psychiatric clinic. To bring the patient out of this condition, the doctor sends her to his house by the sea, accompanied by a young nurse. Between two women left alone is formed a complex relationship, balancing on the verge of love and hate.
This is one of the films that most vividly illustrates the famous psychotherapeutic phenomenon of «transference». In fact, the silent older heroine becomes something like a psychoanalyst figure for the younger one,
with all the emotional swings that follow from this.
