December 12, 13, and 14 at 8:00 PM — Premiere at Haraki Theatre
“Persephone (Where I Forget the Light)” is the debut original work by Anastasia Chanturia, based on a research-driven process. The main character is a woman, framing the performance as a gender-sensitive observation of the contemporary world. The author explores how childhood experiences influence emotional perception and the process of becoming a woman. The performance interprets the myth of Persephone from ancient Greek mythology.
In its contemporary rethinking of the myth, the performance brings together themes of abruptly taken childhood, girlhood, sexual violence, inner transformation, and a return to one’s own identity. Persephone’s transformation into the Queen of the Underworld symbolically reflects the painful process of becoming a woman—an experience of both endurance and survival.
