Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin was one of the most controversial figures at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. A rebel and a dreamer, a fugitive from European civilization, he managed to create a myth about himself no less vivid than his own paintings. Tahiti, the search for “primitive” beauty, a radical break with academic tradition, and pressing moral questions — all of these are inseparable from his name.

During the lecture, we will trace the artist’s creative path, analyze the symbolism of his key works, discuss how an artistic myth is born, and attempt to separate legend from reality. Who was Gauguin in truth — a visionary of new art, a man fleeing responsibility, or someone who paid a high price for freedom?
