On Thursday, June 18, at 20:00 we invite you to a screening of the film “Paris Is Burning” (1990) - the directorial debut of Jennie Livingston and one of the main films in the history of queer cinema.
This is a documentary about late 1980s New York City ballroom culture, queer identity, style, and the power of community. Work on the film took several years: Jennie Livingston began filming it after getting acquainted with the ballroom scene of Harlem, and the heroes of the film were representatives of famous “houses” and legends of this culture.
Upon release, the film received widespread critical acclaim and numerous festival awards. And over time, it acquired cult status, having a huge influence on documentary films and pop culture.
After the screening, we will discuss the film that influenced pop culture, fashion, and the language of visibility of the queer community.
