Nymphomaniac: Volume II

The second part of the scandalously famous semi-pornographic film about a nymphomaniac, where sex becomes just the backdrop for her all-consuming sense of loneliness and emptiness.

The main character, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), found in a semi-conscious state by an older man named Seligman, tells him her story. Through a series of vivid, episodic memories, we follow the winding paths of her developing sexuality—from her youth to adulthood, where Joe’s experiments take on increasingly extreme forms. Gradually, it becomes clear that this isn’t about a painful craving for pleasure: the heroine is trying to fill an inner void, a hunger that can never be satisfied. In trying to quench one desire, she uncovers new ones—deeper, hungrier abysses demanding to be filled.
