Title: “Nail in the Boot”
Duration: 53 min
Year: 1931
Synopsis:
One damaged boot exposes the weaknesses of an entire military system.
“Nail in the Boot” can be viewed as a critical allegory of the Soviet military system and bureaucratic machinery. The film demonstrates how a seemingly insignificant detail — a poorly fixed nail in a soldier’s boot — can lead to large-scale failure and systemic collapse.
The film was banned in the Soviet Union due to its “negative content” and was never officially released. Authorities believed it portrayed the Red Army as weak and disorganized, which made the film a victim of censorship. Following this work, Mikheil Kalatozishvili was forced to step away from cinema for several years.
