During a countryside trip, Laura — a piano student from Berlin — miraculously survives a car crash that claims the life of her boyfriend. Though she escapes without serious injuries, she is left in shock and finds shelter with a local woman who cares for her with maternal warmth. Over time, the woman’s husband and adult son come to accept the guest, and the four begin to live as if they were one family. Still, the days of shared, fragile happiness are destined to come to an end.
The director on the film: “The family in the film has been destroyed by tragedy. Now the wreckage is floating on the surface of the ocean, and the three survivors are trying to build a raft from it. All the pieces are needed for this lifeboat, which will eventually carry them to shore. Perhaps all films tell stories of people trying to build something out of ruins. Cinema speaks about how to survive — not about how we live, but about how we survive.”
👩🦰 After the screening, we’ll brew some tea and share impressions. The discussion will be led by me — philosopher, film scholar, and cinema owner Varya Vlasova.
