Photography reacts differently to world events across different eras. In this session, we will explore how the language of photography conveys reality through historical examples and how photographers have worked with the theme of the body and engaged deeply with it.
Why is bodily representation so important for photographers? What role does it play in photography? How is corporeality transformed into an image? And what is happening with bodily representation today?
We will examine both classical photographers and representatives of the new wave, comparing how different artists have responded to global events.
Speaker: Vera Barkalova – a Moscow-based artist. She works with themes of corporeality and sensuality, taboo and stigmatization, and explores pseudo-philosophy and marginalization. She creates immersive installations using various media, including sculpture, photography, video, and sound.
