A district of Tbilisi you've probably never heard of. Join us for a talk at Papers, where we'll explore ZMK and the architecture of the city!
ZMK — the Metal Construction Plant — is a peripheral area in Samgori, squeezed between the railway and the Mtkvari River.
Here, on a small patch of land, you’ll find Soviet-era housing, private homes, abandoned buildings, and spontaneous structures coexisting. ZMK is a neighborhood you wouldn’t go to without a specific reason — yet it’s a kind of archetype of urban periphery.
In 2018, architect Mikheil Mikadze conducted a study of this area for the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial. On July 8, Mikheil will share his findings about this Tbilisi district and the city as a whole at a lecture in our Papers space. Don’t miss it!
