Description

Art Nouveau — also known as Modern Style — was the first truly modern international style and the key visual image of the “Belle Époque.” Despite the recognizability of its architectural forms, the specifics of its decorative features and regional differences are still not widely studied.

This Friday, our space will host a meeting where we’ll take a virtual journey through the world at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries to explore the various movements in art and design connected with the era of Modernism. We’ll also touch upon the social and political ideas that inspired artists and architects of the time.

At the meeting you will learn:
● Why each country had its own unique name for Art Nouveau.
● How Tbilisi’s Modern differs from Parisian Art Nouveau.
● What urbanism and social housing meant in the Art Nouveau era.
● How Art Nouveau art sought both to save the world and to ignite wars.

The meeting will be of interest to anyone fascinated by the history of art, architecture, and design. It will be led by @amirovandrey Andrey Amirov — lecturer in the history and theory of modern art and architecture.
