Slavery, fat-shaming, arrogant ignorance, racism, xenophobia — many things that are categorically unacceptable to us are not only legal in the world of Harry Potter, but even socially approved. How is this possible in a book that clearly stands on humanistic values?

In her lecture, literary critic Galina Yuzefovich, author of “The Keys to Hogwarts: Cultural Codes of the Harry Potter Universe”, will explain why this happened and show how these and other surprising flaws of magical ethics are connected to cricket, private schools, Jeeves, Wooster, Hercule Poirot, and other quintessentially British cultural phenomena.
