The owner of a postal empire, in an effort to teach his lazy heir named Jesper a lesson, sends him to the far north to the town of Smeerensburg. There, Jesper must establish a post office and process at least 6,000 letters within a year. Upon arrival, the young man finds himself in a war zone: two family clans, due to historical reasons, harbor mutual hatred and strictly uphold a centuries-old tradition of seizing every opportunity to fight and cause trouble for each other.
