The characters live in a kind of commune and portray the feeble-minded in public places, provoking and shocking others. All their actions serve a very specific purpose of "revealing the inner idiot".
Dogma-95 is a small movement whose influence on cinema ultimately turned out to be enormous. It was invented by Trier and Winterberg. At their instigation, the followers of "Dogma" sought to observe the 10 commandments known as the "vow of chastity", including shooting exclusively with a hand—held camera, abandoning props, video processing, music overlay, and even mentioning the director's name in the credits, because, according to their manifesto, "cinema is not a personal matter."
Interestingly, "The Idiots" remained the only Trier film shot according to the laws of "Dogma".
The meeting will be hosted by philosopher and film scholar (and co-founder of the cinema) Varya Vlasova.
