Holy Grail in the Heart of Tbilisi
On the slopes of Mount Mtatsmind, over the seething waters of the hens, there is Tbilisi - a city where the East meets with the West, and legends come to life. One of the most mysterious secrets of this city is the story of the Holy Grail, which, according to ancient traditions, was hidden here from the world.
The legend of the Grail
It is said that in the 4th century AD, when Christianity was just beginning to spread in Georgia, one of the wandering apostles who arrived from Jerusalem brought with them a sacred artifact - a bowl in which, according to legend, was the blood of Christ. Having hiding in Tbilisi, then a small settlement among sulfur springs, he hid the Grail in a cave under the fortress of Narikala, wanting to protect him from pagans and hunters for relics.
The apostle passed the secret to local Christians, who, risking their lives, guarded this shrine for centuries. The cup gained mystical power - it, according to legend, could heal the patients, give wisdom and strength to those who were clean their hearts. However, only a few elected knew the true location of the artifact.
Search for empires
The story of the Grail spread far beyond Georgia. The great empires - Persia, Byzantium, and later the Ottoman Empire - tried to seize this shrine. Each army, invading Tbilisi, began the search for relic.
The Persians believed that the Grail would give them unlimited power over all the peoples of the East. The Byzantines believed that with its help they could strengthen their empire and return Jerusalem. And the Ottomans wanted to use the magical power of the bowl to strengthen their dynasty.
In the XIII century, when Tbilisi was captured by the Mongol troops, the Great Khan sent his shamans and sages in search of a bowl. They spent weeks in the underground catacombs of the city, studying ancient inscriptions and symbols, but never found an artifact. Locals continued to keep secret, preferring to die than to give out a sacred place.
The secret of the underground temple
There is a legend that under the fortress of Narikala hidden an underground temple full of ancient frescoes and treasures, where the Grail is stored. This temple was built in the first centuries of Christianity and hidden from the eyes of people. The entrance to it can only be found at the time of a special connection of stars, about which only the chosen ones knew.
In the 19th century, when the Caucasus became part of the Russian Empire, several archaeologists tried to unravel the secret of the Grail. One of them, Prince Grigory Orbeliani, claimed that he had found the key to the place of his concealment, but soon went missing. His diary, which mentioned mysterious symbols on the walls of Narikala, disappeared.
Heritage
Today Tbilisi remains a city of secrets and legends. Local residents say that those who are approaching the unraveling of the secrets of the Grail see strange dreams about the light emanating from the ground. Many researchers inspired by this story continue to look for a cave near Narikala.
The secret of the Grail turned into a symbol of the strength of the spirit and faith. It recalls that the most sacred is often hidden not in the outside world, but in the heart, which should be clean and brave to find a true treasure .
