«Involutions» — Aleksandra Pavlovskaya-Lokchine

The exhibition is divided into three spaces. First two spaces are focused on abstract drawings and etchings. These works lead the viewer into the transcendental field. Black and white, figurative and abstract, it gives the impression of being a timeless dream.  The contents of the images are not easily apparent at first glance. It is as if they are hidden behind the shroud. Perhaps, we should not look at them but listen to their whispers. The final space consists of silk screen printed images; the viewer is presented with silhouettes of disappearing mothers and their children.  The installation is inspired by orthodox icons of Virgin Mary and the “hidden mother photography” phenomenon. Fatality and omnipresence of divine, invisible faces of spirits and forgotten souls and places that no longer exist surround the viewer with unanswered questions. This exhibition is a metaphorical voyage to the inner world of the artist. Louis-Ferdinand Céline: ‘Travel is useful, it exercises the imagination. All the rest is disappointment and fatigue. Our journey is entirely imaginary. That is its strength.

Description

"Involutions" - Aleksandra Pavlovskaya - Lokchine

Alexandra Pavlovskaya-Lokchine is a young French artist currently studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague, Netherlands. She is a multidisciplinary artist and a filmmaker. At the moment she is exploring multiple graphic techniques, experimental drawing, etching, silk screen and drypoint printing.

Her themes touch upon long abstract journeys through inner worlds and imaginative/non-existing realities. It is an attempt to depict the hidden and ungraspable. Through the process of printmaking she creates thin contrast lines. Their expressive nature forms other worldly figures and images.
