In the Aisles

A romantic drama with a twist, starring the brilliant German actors Sandra Hüller and Franz Rogowski. The film keeps revealing itself to be far less simple and straightforward than it first appears — and at times, not really a romantic drama at all. The one constant is the director’s affection for his touching, awkward, shy, introverted characters.

Reclusive Christian takes a night-shift job at a supermarket in the provinces, but even that can’t save him from meeting Marion, a charming and mysterious colleague from the sweets department. Marion clearly has her secrets, and when she suddenly goes on sick leave, Christian is strongly tempted to draw on the methods of his dark past to uncover them.
