Saturday Morning. Rivka’le and Eliyahu, an elderly couple, are watching television. The news announces that war has broken out. Eliyahu, stubborn and determined, insists on heading to the frontlines to defend their home. Rivka’le, on the other hand, is adamant about moving into assisted living.
They can’t understand why the clock has stopped, where the neighborhood grocery store disappeared to, or what that burnt smell is that’s seeping into their living room.
Rivka’le and Eliyahu, like many Israelis, feel an urgent need to help from the home front, to stop the bleeding at the border. But their will repeatedly clashes with the limitations of age.
This is a journey through time in a moment that has come to a standstill. A story of lifelong love under the shadow of a betraying body, a faltering mind, and a homeland in crisis.
The play was written as part of the Israel Lottery Council for the Arts’ initiative “Counter Response” to the events of October 7, with the support of the Rabinovich Foundation.
