HIKING TO LEVITAN LAKE & MOUNT JAMDJAMA
by georgian__adventures
A spectacular one-day hiking adventure on the border of the Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions, not far from Borjomi and Gori. We'll reach the mountain ridge, where breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views await.
PROGRAM
• Travel to the trailhead by Mitsubishi Delica 4×4.
• Begin the hike at Levitan Lake, surrounded by dense mixed forests of fir, spruce, beech, oak, and hornbeam.
• Continue the ascent to the mountain ridge overlooking Mount Jamdjama (2,380 m). The trail crosses alpine meadows and wild mountain paths untouched by mass tourism.
• Reach the rocky summit of Mount Jamdjama, whose distinctive shape resembles a crown. From the ridge you'll enjoy magnificent views over the Tana and Dzama valleys, while on clear days the Greater Caucasus Range is visible on the horizon.
• Picnic in a scenic location. We'll stop at a supermarket on the way out of the city, and we'll provide light snacks and hot tea.
• On the way back, we'll visit Ateni Sioni, a church built in the early 7th century. It preserves remarkable frescoes from Georgia's Golden Age, along with one of the country's richest collections of historical inscriptions carved both inside and outside the church.
