Georgian calligraphy is more than the art of beautiful writing — it is the handwriting of a nation, an imprint of our identity and spirituality. It is a poetic expression of deep emotions that has withstood the test of time and continues to reflect our culture and pass it on to future generations.
In today’s world, where technology transforms our relationship with the written word, handwriting remains a living link between time and thought. Calligraphy reminds us that beyond speed, there is beauty, stillness, and meaning — culture etched in the rhythm of letters. To witness Georgian calligraphy is to feel the heartbeat of a nation — a refined expression of love, pride, and artistry that transcends time and space. And such heritage needs protection, care, and transmission.
That is the purpose of the first international Georgian calligraphy festival “Gulani”, which brings together emerging and professional artists — from Abkhazia, Samachablo, historical Hereti, Fereydan, Turkey, regions of Georgia, and the Georgian diaspora in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Festival highlights include:
The official launch of the International Association of Georgian Calligraphy — a platform uniting calligraphers, researchers, and enthusiasts both in Georgia and abroad
A presentation of the book "Gulani" by Tinatin Svanidze-Venko, a work that conveys Georgian language, emotion, and beauty through calligraphic form
A curated exhibition and sale of calligraphic artworks by both students and professional artists
The event is initiated and funded by Tinatin Svanidze-Venko
We invite everyone interested in how a word becomes a manuscript — and how a manuscript becomes cultural heritage.
This festival is a celebration of the power, beauty, and timeless spirit of Georgian calligraphy — and it is set to become an annual tradition.
