A fictional city built right next to an asteroid crater annually gathers a congress of young stargazers. This time everything is not going according to plan: its participants are stuck in tiny houses among the desert, cacti, and decorations for indefinite quarantine.
This time, Anderson makes his already artificial world deliberately artificial: the characters realize that they are playing in a movie, and every now and then we see a black-and-white playwright working as a local demiurge. According to the degree of falsity of the characters, «Asteroid City» is approaching «The Truman Show». It seems that the director has fallen into self-repetition: cute kids again, the same actors (however, Bill Murray got sick with the crown, so this is actually Anderson's first film shot without him), candy gamma, sugar reality. But if you look closely, you can see: we are touched by a doomed world that can no longer be saved.
