In 2026, Georgia marks the 1700th anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity as the state religion. This historic milestone commemorates the arrival of St. Nino in Georgia, the adoption of Christianity in the ancient Kingdom of Iberia, and the beginning of a new era in the country's cultural and political development.
To celebrate this significant anniversary, a series of festive events has been organized under the project "Georgia as a Christian State – 1700," featuring a programme of classical music concerts.
The concerts will present works by Gustav Mahler, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Giuseppe Verdi, Maurice Ravel, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sulkhan Nasidze, and Zviad Bolkvadze.
Performers include the Festival Orchestra, the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba) Patriarchal Choir, and the Georgian State Chamber Choir. The project's artistic directors and conductors are Svimon Jangulashvili and Zviad Bolkvadze. The concerts will also feature invited international musicians.
