Another solo concert by George Mel — in a brand new role.
• George Mel – simultaneous guitar, cajón, lead vocals, songwriting, and arrangements.
• Mariam Abdushelishvili – backing vocals.
For 25 years, George Mel has accompanied some of the world’s greatest songwriters across diverse styles and cultures — including Esperanza Spalding, KJ Denhert, Raul Midon, Javier Ruibal, David Wilcox, and John Hall (to name just a few). As New York City Jazz Record calls him, a “veteran of the New York City jazz and world music scene,” drummer/percussionist/composer/singer-songwriter George Mel now steps into the spotlight with a completely different project: a genre-spanning solo concert as a singer and songwriter (with guitar, cajón, and vocals; sometimes joined by a rhythm section or guest soloists).
This concert will feature George Mel’s original interpretations of a wide range of musical masterpieces, including works by George Gershwin, Burt Bacharach, Sting, Genesis, Kate Bush, Bruce Springsteen, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, SEAL, and many more.
