George Mel Solo Concert

For the past 25 years, Giorgi Melikishvili — known internationally by his stage name George Mel — has accompanied some of the world’s finest songwriters across genres and cultures, including Esperanza Spalding, KJ Denhert, Raul Midon, Javier Ruibal, David Wilcox, and John Hall, among others.

Described by The New York City Jazz Record as “a veteran of New York’s jazz and world music scene,” drummer, percussionist, composer, and singer-songwriter George Mel steps into the spotlight with his new project, the G.I.A. Project (Globally Inspired Artist), presenting an entirely new kind of performance — a genre-blending solo concert where he appears as a singer and songwriter (with guitar, cajón, and vocals; occasionally joined by a rhythm section, backing vocalist, or guest soloists).

His program features both original songs and reinterpretations of masterpieces by musical greats — from modern to classical eras, from around the world. Singing in five languages and performing in five different guitar tunings, George Mel creates music that truly embodies the spirit of a globally inspired artist.
